I just bought my second FD. I noticed that under WOT I'll get a whiff of fuel oder. No oder when driving normal.

I pulled my UIM and remembered why I got rid of the rats nest on the first one. Don't worry, I'm keeping this rats nets, it works.

I turned on the fuel pump via the diagnostics and sniffed around and found nothing. I even felt around the secondary injectors, couldn't really tell if there was a leak. The fuel lines were replace by the previous owner. I noticed a cut in one of the vacuum lines and fixed it.

I was going to bypass the pulsation damper but didn't have time, I put everything back together, since then I don't smell anything at WOT anymore.

This is driving me nuts. I should be bypassing the fpd and checking out the secondaries further.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I would start by checking these two items:

1. Aluminum check valve in the line from the Purge Control solenoid to the UIM

2. The check valve in the brake booster line

#1 is part of the fuel evaporative system which is suppose to release gas fumes into the UIM to be expelled through the exhaust.

#2 if not working, air can push back through the brake booster from the UIM sending some fuel odor into the cockpit from the driver's side.

Those are two pretty easy ones to check off the bat.

have had the fuel smell at wot on my first two fds...

one was a failed check valve on the booster line.. the other was a bad lim gasket..

Ok just got back from checking things out. The brake booster valve held vacuum after having the car sitting for an hour after driving. The steel purge valve checks ok with just blowing on it, I'll check it with a pump later. I also took the car out and beat on it with no smell.

Intermediate problems sure suck.

yesterday I eliminated the FPD and checked out the fuel rails. Everything looks good. Haven't had the smell for a while, but It was comforting for me to get rid of that damn FPD.
