Ok guys, it is a 93, car has 66k original miles, and has a fresh reman in it, done at a mazda dealer, everything is stock on the car, no aftermarket stuff anywhere. Car pulls hard in 1st and second, when you hit 3rd it just falls right on it face... no boost at all. all the rats nest is pliable and the hoses are all brand new with the motor. Owner rarely drives the car, and it acctually gets parked for weeks at a time. When I was driving I could feel the second turbo and the changeover so I beleive all is working correctly with the solenoids.

Ideas or suggestions please.

Thanks

I think you answered your own question.

"and has a fresh reman in it, done at a mazda dealer"

Boy do I feel like a moron. Being more of a specialist in FC's than FD's I have figured out the problem...

Since it was a customers car, and I try not to beat on them when they are in the shop I did not realize that this low mileage FD had a really tight shifter. Because the tachometer is inop I really could not figure out why when I hit 3rd it would just fall on its face, and since the tach was intermittant it was not boosting like it should, but at a 60 mph roll I could get all the boost I could handle.

Well due to my driving style I was acctually missing 3rd and shifting it straight into 5th (really close) when I would pull it back down into 4th, back in the seat I would go and the car would rocket forward again.

Figured it out racing a buddies S-10 tonight, from the roll I hit third, forth and 5th and the car was smooth as silk.

Damn Mazda wiring, now anybody have a clue on this damn tach?

You might want to take a look at the drivers side engine mount while you've got it. It's held together by the rubber in tension, and could be the reason why you keep missing 3rd. It just parts, and then the only thing holding the drivers side of the motor DOWN is the thin band wrapped around the mount.

As for the tach, you've got an output from the ECU that goes to the gauge CPU and then to the tach. Looks like you might be in for a bit of work tracing wiring.
