Just a thought here - Having a loose positive cable at the alternator can lead to premature alternator failure. Why? Because the voltage regulator is internal to the alternator. If you have a loose output connection your are esentially creating additional resistance. In turn, the voltage regulator is required to compensate by increasing the output. I.E. instead of working at 70% duty cycle, it's running at 95-100%, and subsequently wears out faster.
