If you run Air to Water, where are you going to mount the pump and water cooler?

see, that was my problem. . . but i still think mounting the water cooler in the front would be easier than mounting the fmic up there.

93r1, i am wanting to sell the intercooler and endtanks for $1k if you wanna take it off my hands.

Didn’t want to give the impression that that is mine, but I guess I did. Sorry!

I am building a very similar vmount IC like Chucks/RE’s

I was just saying that my piping and couplers came from there. They seem to have the best prices that I can find on mandrel bent alum/SS sections and couplers.

good advice!!

good luck on your prodject

Also, what are your opinions on dividing the intake charge with baffling to evenly distribute air throughout the IC good/bad/unnecessary?

Any comments or ideas on the subject?

the above pics are of rick's intercooler at rx7 fashion/rick's rotary. not cheap and i also heard that the end tanks are terrible since they end on the top with a BLOCK instead of being rounded.

well, that is disappointing rp101. hahaha, nah, just kidding. i would however like to see if someone can get me the specs on that kit. . . otherwise ill be trying ti figure out what i can do to a water/air kit to make it not heatsoak. maybe a fan on the water cooler (itll actually be a tranny cooler ) that is actuated by temperature. no big deal, not hard to do. . . but is it enough? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

as in, putting something in the intake pipes that "moves" the air across the the opening of the intercooler? the problem would be designing the baffling properly. you dont really know how the air is gonna act when it gets smacked up against that intercooler piping. its pressurized so itll be looking for some place to go. . . in a sense. and the intercooler is a low pressure "area" so it would be moving to that point at a pretty fast rate. putting baffling there might disrupt how it all flows.

i cant "see" physically what you are proposing so i can only post my thoughts on a crude setup. maybe if you posted a drawing of what youre doing. . . or pm it to me, if you dont wany others seeing it. hell, email it to me at btigert@bellsouth.net. . . i wanna see it. hahaha

thanks kris, much needed info. i can probably just figure out the kit by looking at the pictures and the front of my car. im not exactly the fondest of the pipes coming in side-by-side like that through the middle of the car. kinda looks goofy if you ask me. id have to find elswhere to mount the piping. . . which means that my endtanks might be able to be used. i noticed the nasty tanks on that kit and it concerned me. so if i had my inlet/outlet setup like theirs, i would modify my tanks. extend them, cut off the "ports", and move them to the position that they have theirs. . . EXCEPT, the tanks would follow the contour of the "ports". they wouldnt be squared at all. i dont think it would be hard at all to modify my endtanks for that setup. . . theyre cast and are very well designed.

I think the baffles would be a good idea because it would assure a more even flow across the core, by causing the air to enter into chambers that are evenly distributed in its path.

I don’t believe, if done correctly, that the negating effects of pressure drop and resistance from the extra surface area of the baffling would be of consequence, because not only is it very short, but will only really cause a problem as it hits the bend. And it is rounded as opposed to being a flat wall at the end of the tank

From what I know about hvac and fluids it could actually be better than just square tanks welded together for laminar flow alone, now add in the effects that the IC is getting evenly distributed heated air and it seems to me that it is a worthwhile PITA to do on my IC.
