Aftermarket Radiator
#1
i did a search but couldn't find anything specific to automatic transmissions. i'm asking on behalf of a friend that has a '93 automatic.
Is there any aftermarket aluminum radiators available that are designed for automatic transmissions? Or is a stock replacement the only alternative?
thanks gang

There is only one company that I know of "AWR" and Mazdatrix sells it (special order). I think it stands for Australian something racing. It's about $600 with tax or shipping. The trans cooler and radiator are conected together on the auto and that's why you need a special one. If you can't afford it, you can go to a radiator (only) shop and they can clean the core and replace the plastic tanks. A new OEM auto' radiator will run about $450-$500.

I have a 93 auto they come from the factory with a external oil cooler for the transmission. All radiators are the same on the RX that's why you can't find one. I was wondering the same thing a few months ago. Your oil cooler for your tranny is in the ft lower side on the nose on the passngewr side it looks like a small intercooler. Ron

Maybe it's your wording (sounds confusing)
The radiator for the Auto's have a connection to the trans' cooler, which you need. There wasn't enough demand for the Auto's and that's why you can't find one.
The trans' cooler looks like a 2nd oil cooler and is in the same location as the R1.
You can buy the AWR (for Auto's) from www.mazdatrix.com
If you have the specs, you can have Griffin custom make one to.
