I have a factory A/C system in my 93 it had the original r12 but started getting weak when it got hot. I decided to buy a $35 conversion kit and convert it. Sytem was evacuated and the conversion kit installed. The system seems to only take 1 can of 134 and it goes into the red zone on the pressure gauge if you try to put more than 1 can . I was thinking my expansion valve is sticking but someone mention in this conversion you need to adjust the low pressure switch or get a new style expansion valve for 134. I converted ton of other cars and never had to do anything but put the the refig in buy a new dryer. Anyone out there do this conversion . I let a ton of refig out just to get it in range I got the guage to go into the proper zone the a/c blows cold but with your driving it at 2000 rpms the compressor kicks off and on constantly making the car run bad. ANY help would be appreciated. Also anyone remove the expasion valve which is under the passengers side dash ?? What all needs removed to get that out it doesn't look fun. Thanks Ron

Ron, you may want to replace the recevier/drier, sounds like the desecant bag has let go, and clogged your expansion valve. Normally when doing a 134a conversion I replace this, because a 12 yr old unit, plus the new higher pressure will eventually blow the bag anyhow.

Should I still replace the expansion valve and if so how do i go about removing it . It looks like a major job. Do I remove the heater core and all of that stuff just to get that exp valve out.

new drier is a good idea and did you get rid of the mineral oil? and replace it with some pag oil? without seeing the high and low side pressure it would be hard to condem the exp valve
