It is not that stock coils are better than blaster coils, they are just not needed until you get up above 500hp. If you were to upgrade to 3 MSD 6a's, for instance, you would need to upgrade to blaster coils and a size 10 wire. Blaster coils are good coils, but for what he wants the stock coils are a better choice.

What about upgrading just the wires? Is that supposed to help, or is it wasted money?

Upgraded wires will probably make a small margin of difference but a while back. Really old decrepid factory wires can make a car run sub par but I have yet to see someone showing me a physical reason why one set of fancy wires is better than another.

I would just by a new set of size 8 wires. Many people prefer the RE Amimiyas or the Hotwires, but I have seen no real proof that one is better than the other. The stock wires are made by NGK and are good wires, I would just buy a new set and call it a day. They should be relatively cheap.
The stock wires are not made by NGK. The dealers sell the NGKs, but the factory ones are made by Yazaki. There is difference between the NGK's and the Yazakis.

Thanks for correcting me, that is just what I was told. I have never bought wires from the dealership, personally.
