Temp, comfortable around low 70s. The car made it through the dead of summer without the gauge ever going above 1/2 (where it always sits). No belly pan, sitting in traffic, never got hot.
On my way from lunch a few minutes ago, the coolant buzzer buzzes for a few seconds then stops. I think, "oh well, guess it's time to add more coolant to top it off." I noticed the gauge went up between 5/8 and 2/3 towards hot, which kinda freaked me out. Got to work, popped the hood, and I see coolant bubbling out from under the cap (on the filler neck), steam going everywhere. WTF? Thermostat stuck closed maybe? I still have to make it home today. I've never had this happen, and it worries me. Just when I start to think my car is finally reliable. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
yer fucked

overheat = death to rotary
|
But how high up on the temp gauge can the needle go before damage happens?
|
i wouldnt worry about it yet
|
That's the beauty of factory temp guages, H and C are as about as technical as they get.
|
I thought I remember reading that it was pretty accurate. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif
|
OK what temperature did it get up too then?
|
well ****, is the retreat fee non-refundable?

Cause if it were me I'd be fucked.
That said, the stock gauge might be accurate, but to what? It doesn't give you a ******* temp, it just says C H last I checked temps were measures in degrees usually preceeded by a numerical value. Man I'm fucked my car almost H'd today. |

ok lets assume that H = 270 and C = 0. Let's say that at 230 the engine shits. Where on the gauge can you guarantee that 230 is? Where can you gurantee any temp other then 0 and 245?
I hate stock temp guages. Not to mention with a quarter sweep guage the difference between running and junk even if you had #'s would be minimal, at least with a full sweep gauge you can watch the rise 5 degrees at a time. With the above #'s you got very little movement and you've raised temps from acceptible to junk. |
USE A mazda t-sTAT!

**** that you live in Florida throw the thing away. Cut the heater core out too! |
Wife is on her way to Mazda to get a t-stat, and bringing it to me with an assortment of tools, and some jugs of water. I can't think of what else could be the problem. I'm sure it's fine, it's just easier to assume the worse possible case.
|
See all this time you've been telling me she's good for nothing.

Its probably the thermostat. I had the same thing happen to me. My car was fine I caught it in time.
I always have a spare t-stat just in case. They seem to just stop working without warning. |
Is it ok to drive without one? Won't it just take a long time to warm up, or are there other issues involved?
|
this actually a funny thread.
sorry baldy to laugh at your expense |
Will autozone or any other auto stroe sell them, i think I might need a new one to, cars been runnin kinda hot lately

It's fine to drive without one, I used to remove it from my jeep whenever we went rock climbing, actually keeps the fucker nice and cool. As far as hurting anything, it's warm enough around here that you won't have any issues, in a colder climate it''lls never heat up. It will however take longer to reach operating temp =, especially in the morning, but as far as getting it home you'd be better off driving without then with a fubared one. |

atleast she offerd......lol
|
Evidently this problem has made a long-term effect. After putting the new one in and getting it running, the (albeit inaccurate) temp gauge was consistantly lower, at 1/4 or 1/3.
|
So its higher now all the time?
|
*points to the word "moraons"*
*chuckle* ^_^ |
