visual difference between s4/s5 tii transmission?
#1
I tried searching, maybe I was not looking things up right, basically im looking for a picture of the difference between the 2.
I actually have pictures of both types, but none of them show the same angles or the same details, they actually suck for side by side comparisions.
so anyone have a picture of both transmissions side by side or a easy way of knowing the difference?
thanks

I have S4 and S5 n/a transmissions literally side by side, and I can't tell the difference. The only way I know is that one....crap, I think I forgot which is which. I'll take a look at them tonight more closely if you don't have an answer by then.

I want my BabyBack BabyBack BabyBack ribs!
TIIs look the same. Newer N/A has less ribs than TII and has integrated bell housing. Early N/A (86?) FCs have a smooth case, barely any ribs.
Im 90% sure the S5 has different elec. connectors for the switches. Been a while since ive seen one.

man I could swear early TII had a case with like 2 ribs where s5s had like 5-6 ribs
going by my input shaft seems I at least have a s4 input shaft, no worries as my pressure plate is
being taken care of.

im talking if you dont have any crossmembers on hand.
my problem was someone changed my front cover to a S4 and the trans was S5.
Simple $45 cover change and all was well again.
My theory is that at sometime in Japan someone with a S5 needed a trans, got one from another car
and because they had stock clutch and pressure plate decided to swap the front covers so they could
use what they already had.
