v8 swap into an fc...I know i know it should be forbidden

well i know most of you guys are die hard rotary fans but im in a tough situation and im goin with it. I got an 88 rx that i got from a freind, unfortunatley the motor needs to be rebuilt. Prior to this i have been building a small block pontiac 400 and waiting to find somethin to put it in. I came accross this mazda and i know v8 swaps are doable so i decided to see what i can make of it. I havent really toar into the mazda yet but i am just curious if anyone on here has any info on this swap. I know grannys speed shop has alot of info on how to do it but i wanted to get some responses from people who have done it or seen it. Also, out of curiousity how much could i sell my 13bn/a motor and 5 speed trans out of the mazda for.
---anyone interested in it?

I dont know if a pontiac 400 is doable, thats a odd shaped, large engine, dont think it would fit into the car.
You can do a chevy 350 or a ford 302 and would get plenty of support from others who have done the swap
and dont feel bad about the swap- its better then those guys who buy cars with no engines just to part them out never to be on the road ever again.

Check out www.torquecentral.com for info on engine swaps. They have a page dedicated to engine swaps in the Rx7.

There is nothing wrong with doing it. It's your car to do with what you please!
And selling a blown 13b and trans you probably won't get more than 100 bucks for it. Just tear open the motor and use the rotors and housings as display cases. Or turn the rotors into clocks, and the housings into fish tanks. SWEET!

Well i know they make a conversion kit for a chevy 400 which i know is diff in some ways but overall very simalar. Of course i will have to do a little engineering but i dont mind doing a little work.

Im buying a shell that had a V-8 in it already but they took it out to toss it in something else for 300, its a base. I have a LSD 5 lug conversion and brakes for it already. Im planning on putting a 351W in it.

If you don't mind a hood scoop there should be no problems. Also you will need the oil pan with the double sump. I think most 5.0 Mustangs have this kind of pan. It allows the suspension cross member to pass under the engine without having to raise the engine.
Make sure you use an overdrive tranny. A custom driveshaft is easily made. I think the driveshaft flange on the Mazda rear end is interchangeable with a dodge unit (I think). Custom driveshaft cost me around $150 complete.
My conversion even passed smog test.
