Ok, well, as the title says, im gonna be replacing my toasted-coolant-seals NA engine with an S4 turbo, and doing the rest of the drivetrain at the same time. Id like to have everything Ill need on-hand before starting, and had a few questions on some peripherals.

I know the standard stuff:Engine, trans, driveshaft, diff and half-shafts, now for the questions:

Since its an 88 vert, i can re-use the harness and ECU to run the S4 T2 motor.

Are the NA and T2 fuel pumps the same, or will i need to swap one for the other?

I have a RB cat-back for an NA, and would really like to continue using it for now (keeping costs somewhat down). Is there a downpipe or cat replacement pipe available that would run straight to the Y-pipe? If not, is there a downpipe that would connect up to one of the cats already on the car?

Are the NA radiator and oil cooler the same as the T2, or will I need to replace one/both? I know its a good idea to replace them, just as a safety factor, but Im keeping the T2 engine stock (for now )

Will I need the T2 pressure sensor (if it doesnt come with the engine already)?

Are the airboxes & AFM's on the NA and T2 interchangable?

Are any special tools needed? I dont think Ill be doing the flywheel/clutch at this time since Im going to try to get a j-spec S4 engine/trans combo.

Which leads me to my last q... Who do you recommend getting jdm engines from? good and bad experiences welcome, id like to know who to avoid as well. Im in the NY-NJ area, so local would be great, but not necessary

Thanks!

Hmm.. editing isnt working, but I also wanted to ask whether Id need to swap gauge clusters with a turbo. Since im still using my vert's ecu, i dont think so, but Ill def be going with an aftermarket pressure gauge to keep an eye on things.

Don't do any short cut.

Get all the sensors that are needed for the TII. I have done this swap before.

If you are limited in budget.

At least get the ECU, AFM, pressure sensor and a TII fuelpump. You may have to do some rewiring but is simple.

I'm doing a simple swap in a vert but i'm going with a cosmo and aftermarket ECU.

COILS, RADIATORS are alll the same.

If you are going to use the na tranny for themean time. Just put in the s4 na flywheel into the engine. You can swap out flywheel with in s4s.

Im doing the drivetrain at the same time, and since its an 88 vert, it has the N338 ecu with both the turbo and na fuel maps... thats what prompted the gauge cluster question. I am working on a little bit limited budget, but having the car run reliably is more important. Plus, i want it to run like a stock T2 before I start doing any mods (or have the $ to do any mods)

I never hard of an ecu being for both NA and turbo. They have different injectors that need to be calibrated for the right amount of fuel.

I just found the of someone saying the ECU338 is turbo capable. I will have to test that with my vert project.

Yea, from what Ive picked up, the 88 verts had an ecu capable of supporting the NA and turbo engine with two different maps that it would switch between depending on the sensor input (knock and pressure sensors on T2). This was bc the vert was originally gonna be both NA and turbo, but the turbo one ran into some sort of legal trouble in the states being too expensive or heavy to avoid a certain tax, or something along those lines, so only the NA was imported, even tho the ecu had already been developed to run both. All of this background stuff is hearsay, but it sounds somewhat plausible. Anyway... Will my stock gauges still work? Will the voltage gauge suddenly start working as a boost gauge?
