I am looking at turboing my N/A 86. I just put a rebuilt 13b street port, it has less than 3000 miles on it. I would just like to know what i would need to turbo it. im looking towards an aftermarket turbo, not a stock turbo. What would the best turbo be? I was thinking the T3/T4 hybrid. But please let me know which setup would be best for me..thanks

You want to turbo your new SP motor, or did you want to convert to a turbo motor? Turboing an NA motor is extremely dangerous without proper tuning knowledge and mechanical abilities. I only know of one successful NA turbocharged setup. But, to get you on your way here's a brief list of what's involved:

-Turbo: an aftermarket turbo would be overkill for the NA turbo setup. The NAs have higher compression and a lower tolerance for boost, that 6 to 9 psi would be the most you could safely run. A stock T2 turbo would be best for fitment reasons, and for cost reasons. You can get a stock turbo & manifold for $200 to $400. If using a stock turbo, you will need to space the turbo manifold out 1-1.5" because the turbo won't clear the LIM on the NA motors...this also makes it a tight fit for the wastegate actuator arm. However, if you do go aftermarket, a custom manifold used to set the turbo more towards the stock airbox location away from the LIM would work out. But the cost would increase to $300+ for a manifold and $500+ for the turbo....unless you get a good deal.

-Fuel: Stock 540cc T2 injectors should work fine for a 6-8psi range. You'll then need something to control it, which would be like an S-AFC or similar. An upgraded fuel pump is in order as well...

-IC: An intercooler isn't needed for lower boost levels, but if your goin 6 or over, you will want one. Any stock IC from a T2, volvo, starion, etc would work out fine. You will need the custom plumbing for this as well. A BOV is a nice addition as well to save your turbo. I'm not sure how the stock NA pressure sensor(MAP sensor) would respond to boost as it is just a 1Bar sensor, you may want to change over to a T2 MAP sensor as well raising it to a 2Bar.

-Misc: There are lot of custom oil lines, air intake plumbing, fuel, etc mods that would need to be made. You can drill out a return line in the oil pan for a return line for the turbo...

For the record I have never done this conversion myself, but before I chose to do a turbo motor swap I did a lot of research on the subject and I just thought I'd give my two cents...and I'm bored at work, so I felt like typing a lot. Hope this helps and anybody correct me if I'm wrong on anything...
