Is This True?

I was looking on the Mazdatrix website recently and noticed they state:
"The factory Mazda OEM driveshafts from '83-on have non-replaceable U-joints -- you have to buy a new driveshaft if they wear out"
http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm
Is this true? I've never heard of a non-replaceable u-joint. Thanks.

They do make "replaceable" joints, however the originals are held in by ears that are created during the manufacturing process. They need to be ground away to remove the joints. Then another problem, no inner grove to secure the c clip to hold the bearings in place. Some have tack welded to caps to the shaft, then possibly a balance problem if they aren't centered properly. You'd be better off getting a used one, or a new one with the replaceable joints.
