i wired up the S5 dual TPS to fit the 3rg gen 4 wire TPS to put my FD manifold on)

keeps popping the main fuse when i connect the battery. also arcs on the negative when it connects.

i tryed it 2 ways...this is how i have it right now. both times it did the same thing.

S5 FD

Green/Red - Black/Blue

Orange - Brown/White

Black/Red - Brown/Black

all three from the second S5 TPS are cut and taped off. not arcing together.

Green and Red wire from TPS (i think its the full range/not used wire) taped off.

what am i doing wrong???

according to the s5 wiring diagram book and the 94 FD wiring diagram your connections should be this

FD->S5

Brown/White (BR/W) - > Brown White (BR/W) (Power from ecu)

Green/Red (G/R) - > Green/Red (G/R) (Narrow Range TPS signal)

Black/Green (B/G) -> Black/Green (B/G) (Full Range TPS Signal)

Brown/Black (BR/B) -> Brown/Black (BR/B) (Ground)

Now when putting the FD TPS into the s5 wiring harness you should have an extra Brown/White wire and an extra Brown/Black wire leftover on the s5 harness, this is the extra power and ground that would be going to the second seperate TPS sensor on the s5, the FD unit has both ranges built into it and therefore has no need for a second power or a second ground.

I know you went by colin's post but according to the S5 FSM there is no orange wire to the TPS and no Black/Red to the TPS either, i believe those may be s4 colors. I also dont see any Black/Blue wire in the FD wiring diagram either.

might want to grabd a copy of the FD Wiring Diagram Book and the S5 wiring diagram book, they're a completely different thing then the FSM and they're 100x more detailed.

yeah, the colors match right up if you go before the clip (on the harness) from S5 to FD. the 2 extra wires arnt needed.

got a tip from Banzai-Racing

How can you blow the main fuse by shorting the tps? You really mean the MAIN fuse?

You sure you dont have the battery cables crossed?

Ronin is right BTW, you've got other problems elsewhere if you're popping the main fuse. Something went wrong, and I don't think is has anything to do with the TPS. The TPS will have no power going to it until the key is on. The TPS doesn't even get 12 volts, it will only even see 5 (VREF) from the ECU.

my thoughts exactly. but that was the only thing i had modified. until i later rememberd i removed the little plactic arm from the alternator and bolted the cable strait to the Alt. for the FD manifold to fit. didnt know that little arm was actually important. fixed that. car runs. just have to modify the intercooler piping to fit now.

damn it...thought i had it good.

the car idles fine. starts perfect, kinda (needs tuning)

but when i press the gas. it dosnt respond instantly. and then jumps maybe 6-700 rpms, then drops and 1k from that. then goes back to a smooth idle. could i have mixed up the extra Brown/White wire and an extra Brown/Black wire leftover on the s5 harness. does it matter wich ones on the 2 extra twin wires i leave over?

or do i have a problem other than the TPS?
