Do you all actually read these posts or what. I have never talked about intake temps. I have no idea what mine is. All I know is the ambient air temp, temp before the intercooler, and temp after the intercooler. Those are all you need. The intake temp really won't tell you much except how hot the air is going into the turbo. After that, its all up to the turbo. Thats where the huge increase in temps are. The stock tubos are not very thermal efficient. Since rotary exhaust is really hot, the turbos get really hot, then inturn heat the air up alot. If you guys are trying to say that under FULL boost, your friends temp AFTER the intercooler is a couple degrees off of ambient, tell us what kind of intercooler that is because thats about 99.9999% efficient.

i'm pleasantly surprised at how well the stocker works, theres room for improvement, but its not bad at all

feel like I'm on the spot here

On a datalog I have here...

outside temp was 80-83 deg F

cruising down the highway the air temp sensor was reading right at 90 deg.

When I got into boost the air temp dropped to 87 deg then back up to 91 after a full power run from a stop to 7600 in 3rd gear.

I have 0 problem with cooling my car with the stock FB radiator and a big FMIC. When cruising at 55-60mph I can get the temps down to 180 deg F on a hot day. On that same data log I saw 186 deg at the start and 186 deg at the end. If I were in the boost any longer I'd be doing 120mph so I don't see how having a FMIC can increase your coolant temps all that much for a street car. Maybe a track car a FMIC might throw off a little more heat into the rad but I think the trade off for the cooler intake air temp is more than worth it.

mike
Blink has an ARC unit, he can shed some light on this... [/quote]

unfortunately I have yet to install as I'm waiting on a 90 degree elbow which is on back order

if anyone has the stock 90 degree intercooler elbow they'd like to sell quick hook me up

Oops, those temps were wrong. Had a couple datalogs mixed up here.

The temp before boosting was 108 then it dropped to 107 then back up 110 at the top of 3rd gear (7600rpm) outside temp was 85 deg.

this would be an interesting experiment for me to do on my setup.

I am going to be running two top mounts welded together, being run as an FMIC in an fb.

I would also like to take numbers from either the stocker or my setup with the CO2 spray.

I hope you will be running them in parallel and not series

There is nothing wrong with the stock core, its a pretty damn good one. Ever look at the new WRX STi and compare their hood scoop to ours? There's your problem.

Hey setzep, do you have a FM?? Those numbers look much better than what other people are claiming. I actually had an interesting time this weekend. All I did was write down numbers as I drove. I actually had the temp from the turbo go to 312, but after the intercooler, it was 163. I know many of you probally think that these sensors suck and must be off by 100, but the aren't. I actually had one blow out of the intercooler. It got hot enough that it just ripped the threads under boost. I was waiting for this to happen b/c the intercooler is really thin. Oh yeah, the run where the temp was 312, I was going 130+. So the answer to the infamous question, it seems that it's not fast enough to create a low pressure area in front of the scoop. Maybe at 200+, can't get to that right now. Just wait until I finish my new motor.

All of the numbers that I have crunched have all been around 70% efficient. That is still impressive for a stock intercooler. I have been wondering about a A/W since they are more efficient. But you do loose the shiny radiator.
