aquamist 2C

very nice post... i always believed in the top mount.

Also u will notice that that is a S4 TOp mount. I'm curious how the S5 top mounts perform since they have bigger inlet and outlets... well it looks that way

thxs for the info, but one of my friends with a fmic sees no more than +4deg ambient temp in boost with a monster turbo......

Thats why every one wants a FMIC

And a little CO2 Spray on the IC to even lower intake temps is great!

FMIC + lapping days = overheat engine.

Friend's with fmic generally see 220 F coolant temps.

BTW Can the person who did the test do another run at 14 psi 3rd gear pull.

Then park the car and let it idle and take a temp reading aftre 1 min? i want to see how much heat soak there is.

Maybe with the stock radiator! I'll ask my buddy what is temps are but i guarantee they are under 200....

are you using the water / oil temp sensors? or did you hook the air temp sensors up? your readings might not be to acurrate.

I like those gauges though. I use them for oil and water temp as well. but their air temp gauge uses a different sensor...

I was thinking of running an air temp sensor into one of my gauges with a 3 way switch. so you could read both water or air temps with the flick of a switch on one gauge.

They are all pretty much the same sensors. I have used a thermometer in one position in the sun and the sensor in the same place. They both read back the same. Then I moved them both to the shade and the digital guage cooled quicker. After a minute, both read the same. I assume that it can work just as well. I have both sensors directly in the path of the air so it can cool/heat up quicker.

Cheers!, I did one today and after it sits, it starts to cool down a little bit, then the engine starts to heat it up. i have left my car at idle for about 2 hours and the temps got up to 259 before and 207 after. It takes a couple minutes of 60 mph driving to cool it back down.

I have always been a beleiver of top mounts since there isn't 6 feet of pipe. Finding out that it is around 70% efficient is great. That is better than most front mounts. It does very from speed and air temp, but thats every intercooler. If you do add WI, N2O, or CO2, that could greatly increase your power with pretty much no boost loss.

Since I've done this, I have been wondering if a pulling fan mounted below the intercooler would help in traffic and idle situations. I think I have a couple of inches to play with so I may have to try that.

I dont know what front mounts youre talking about, but my friend with a monster FD rarely sees intake temps above ambient on his FMIC...

120-130°F is definitely NOT near ambient...
