Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine(roadkill669 on the forum) w/ an '87 T2 stock intercooler. He was telling me that he removed two temperatue guages from his old('91) MR2 and put them on the rx7. One before the TMIC and one after..

Intake temps @ 9PSI Before entering the TMIC was 220degrees

Intake temps @ 9PSI After leaving the TMIC was 120-130degrees.

The afterwards numbers changed from time to time..most likely due to it storming right now where he is at and the temps of the air hitting the IC were changing..

Just thought I would throw this information out to you all since I've always heard Rx7 guys argue over the cooling capacity of the TMIC.

Next up, I'll install guages on my FMIC and compare the difference at 9PSI...

Its time we settled this whole TMIC vs FMIC thing!

Great info, thanks for posting.

Thats not bad for a TMIC.

what speed was that at? the faster you go the better it will cool cause you are forcing more air threw the intercooler in both circomstances

When Im on the road crusing in 80°F weather, my intake temps are only 105-1110°F. After a WOT run of 1->4 ( 8psi ), Itll peak at about 150°F. I find it hard to believe that 1 more pound of boost will raise my temps 70°F...

I also have no cold air induction of any sort. Just a filter right at the compressor inlet.

The speeds were 60MPH....those numbers are an average also, of course at different speeds and different PSIs the numbers changed, but it was interesting to see that the TMIC cools as well as it did.

And you can find it as hard to believe at 220 temps if you want, but I'm just posting what we found. His filter sits where the stock airbox was(no cold air box between the top Rad line either, so that may account for some extra degrees too)...

i'd like to see how those numbers look after a good CAI setup

Any ideas about intake temps with an FMIC?

Nice to get some solid data, he should do some more testing too.

Those #s are still shitty. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Tell him to go faster. I thought tmic stopped working at higher speeds because of the low pressure zone over the hood or whatever. Godd thing to test though.
