What do you know...you drive a TII. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

lol

phinsup 10-09-2002 11:11 AM

Oh yea I forgot.

So let me sum this up... we should tell people that want to spend thousands of $$$'s on making a NA into an 8 second car to do it?

I dunno about that, I mean the posts that are being replied as "buy a t2" are posts where some punk is going to spend 5K just getting the HP a t2 has off the floor, call me silly, but seems like a bad investment. Let's not even get into the reliabllity, my guess is it's a wash. The more you push ANYTHING's limits the closer you get to breaking it.

I believe what we are seing here is a bad case of "Turbo Envy" on the part of N/A owners who are really getting frustrated by their lack of performance. Truth is, TII's are rare, and we who are lucky enough to own one shouldn't flaunt it. Telling an N/A owner to "get a TII" is like waving your swinging 10" meat at some poor sucker with a little weenie!

phinsup 10-09-2002 11:34 AM

Yea but this is in regard to people saying they want to dump thousands into a NA. At that rate wouldn't one think it wise to purchase a t2?

I'm not saying that at all, I totally agree with you guys recommending a T2 for those who want to go fast rather than blowing the money on maybe 20-30 HP from an NA.... that's stupid. I'm just pointing out the availability of good ones and the fact that some people on here (like me!) are broke as hell.

SOME of the posts I've seen do seem like people act as though they are hot **** for owning a T2 and that NA owners are fools or are on a lower level.... just my opinion.

I don't think I'm hot **** for owning a TII, but I also don't think I should be hounded with the reliability card. It's all a trade-off.

I never thought TIIs were that rare...I guess mine was too easy to find...actually, I had two to choose from, and the other one was a better buy. Of course, I drove 350 miles to get this one and the other one was 500 miles away.

I'm sure the N/A is a very satisfying car to drive in terms of looks and handling, and they aren't THAT slow. If you have the need for speed, but can't afford a 3G, buy a TII. They are out there, and for generally less than $5k.

Here's one on autotrader.com:

1988 mazda rx7 turbo, 145k on chasis, 50k on rebuilt eng, 70k on trans, hard to find turbo, many mods, new stage 3 clutch, clean inside and out, great condition josh

He's asking $4300.

Sorry. This seems obvious to me...

I can understand wanting to keep the car you have and make it faster. Sure, its' easier that way, but you need to have a goal in mind and recognize the best path to that goal.

If you really like power in a straight line, go turbo. If you just want an RX-7 for the handling go NA.

At the last autocross I was at, my friends father who has a stock 86 superbase NA with the exception of the fully prepped, still being broken in street ported/every NA upgrade in the book minus exhaust engine, ran only 2-3 seconds behind me with the stock phone dials and POS tires.

Then again, I have stock suspension as well, and could only use 1/2 throttle as I have a full 3" exhaust, no FCD, and dislike engine replacement https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Also lets not forget Vosko with the GTU at last years halloween cruise hanging with the modified FDs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
