Being very bored at work, I've decided to do a little research on possible exhaust systems for my '88 SE. Basically what I'm interested in is something that's not too loud (but meaner if that makes any sense lmao), and a slight gain in hp is always good .

What interests me the most is the Bönez Dual Cat System from Rx7.com ... Click Here

AND

The RP 50mm Cat-back also from Rx7.com ... Click Here

I was thinking that this would possibly not be too loud since it is a dual cat system, and the cat-back kind of looks a stock so it can't be too crazy.

What do you think?

based on the fact that you still want emissions, i'm guessing you are going for a clean looking, quick car that is still senseable. if that is the case, i'd go with the racing beat cat back. they make one of the best exhaust systems for RX-7's, and if you sell your car, the system will increase the value of the car, or you can re-sell the exhaust and get a large amount back for it.

it is quality, made from durable stainles steel construction that will last.

as for cat replacements, i'd be a little hesitant about the bonez stuff. i'm sure the quality isn't bad, but i dont think RP has the time or engineering experience to design one of the best replacement cats and still sell it for cheap.

you might try the mazdatrix header / cat combo. i'm not sure how loud they will be, but teh headers will give you more power, and the cat should muffle the sound some, while increaseing power since it is "high flow"

here is the link: http://www.mazdatrix.com/e-gray.htm

mazdatrix also sells other exhaust systems like HKS and Racing Beat:

cat back: http://www.mazdatrix.com/e86-92.htm

complete racing true dual systems (plus sound clips): http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-ex86nt.htm

corksport also carries lots of mufflers and what not that you can check out:

I think you would really like the racingbeat exhaust by your description.

If you haven't already done reliability mods do those first.

I have the Bonez cats for my car. Don't rely on it for emissions testing. Mine failed both times it has been inspected with it on. To pass I had to remove it, put stock cats back on and it passed with flying colors, in fact one gas was barely detectable it passed so well, so don't rely on it for emmisions. In fact I am thinking of going with a straight pipe and just switching out for emissions testing.

Now as far as Catbacks, I paid a lot but I have what I think is one of the nicest catbacks made. Now granted I paid an arm and a leg and was probably ***-raped for it too but I am veyr happy with the money spent. I purchased the Greddy 60/80mm Power extreme catback from RX7.com. I had to wait for 3 months to get it because they do it on a bulk order status so they have to wait until enough are ordered to make them. It is made of unbelieveable quality and has a great exhaust note (I wish I could record it). Plus it is huge and flows amazingly free.

Here are some photos of the ***-end of the system. I can get others if you wish.

The bonez exhaust at rx7.com is over priced. It is basically the dyno max mufflers painted black.

I paid 275 for my old dyno max muffler system. It is the same design as the HKS ones just not stainless.

I would get the racing beat over all, quiet but nice sound and it lasts for ever.

Next up would be also the borla cat back. which is all stainless stell and will last for ever too

Wow I wasn't expecting so many replies! Thanks Guys

gazellis: God damn that's a sexy *** lol. But $900 I find is a little steep.

RX7Aggie: Lots of info there ... You rock! Now you got me wanting the Complete Dual Exhaust System With The Racing Beat Mufflers. I haven't gotten to watch the video clip since I am at work. I'm pretty sure it's pretty damn loud since it includes headers and all, if you've listened to it how bad (or should I say good lol) is it? I'll listen to it when I get home.

I also just realized that installation for an exhaust system is going to be impossible to find here in Montreal, Qc. No one works on rotaries! Bloody Canadians Eh? (No offence to any Canadian, I'm Canadian too lol) I think something like this should be done professionally.

Thanks Guys!

you could probably find a used one a little bit cheaper somewhere.
