Hi again,

I was driving home from work today in my new '89 TII and the tach died . At the same time the CEL came on. The car still rand and smelled fine so I think that the CEL is somehow related to the Tach going out. Is this a possibility? I searched around a little bit and saw that I should check the connections at the trailing coil. How can I find this and what should I look for?

Thanks so much,

Mont

What is the "CEL"?

The tach runs of the trailing coil, that is why they say to check it. The trailing coil is the large box looking thing near the brake master cylinder. It has the 2 trailing wires on it. You can take it off with 3 10mm nuts and make sure there is bare metal where the coil bracket meets with the coils. You want this to be a very good connection because the coils use it for the ground. Also you can unplug the coils and make sure the connectors are clean.

Here is a pic pointing at the trailing coils: http://www.rx7turbo.com/projectcosmo/newpi...newenginbay.jpg

I checked all the connections on the trailing coil and there didn't seem to be anything out of place. When I have some more time, probably not untill Thurs, I'm going to take the coil out and make sure all of the wires have a good connection. If there's nothing out of whack there I'll have to dig into the dash and make sure the connections there are good. I'm pretty sure its a wiring issue because it works right when I start up the car and usually when I hit a bump of some sort it goes out again. any other suggestions??
