I'm getting a delayed smoking when I start up my TII after it's been sitting for a while. Since it doesn't smoke for 10-20 seconds after startup, and then starts smoking like crazy, I'm thinking it's the turbo seals (I know they're bad anyway) and hopefully not the engine seals. Am I right, or at least probably right?

Join the club. Pull the turbo off and see if there is oil in the exhaust ports of the motor..

I'll have to fix my DD before I dig into that, because when I pull off the turbo I'll be replacing the seals, gaskets, and studs which will surely take longer than planned.

Sounds like the turbo. That's what mine does.

I know it's at least the turbo, because there's oil in the intercooler piping. I'm hoping that the delayed smoke means that that's all it is! I guess I could go for an engine rebuild if I had to, though.
