set the timing
#1
Well after hunting around on the net a bit I realized I had not installed my crank angle sensor correctly. Plus I had forgot to put the new o-ring on it, oops. So I pulled it out and lined up the notch on the gear with the corresponding mark on the shaft. I then set the timing marks on the pulley and housing and then reinserted the cas. I then spent the next 6 hours or so wondering why my car would not start and was flooding like crazy. I must of pulled my plugs about 20 times to clean them off. I even tried compression starting it with no luck. I then reread the instructions and reinstalled the cas again. This time I set the pulley and housing marks first, then pulled the cas and set it. I also resett the computer. And the car fired right up, ran pretty good. I still have a surge but it is only around 200 rpms now and does not appear to be present after 3 grand. Any ways today was a very nice learning experience I guess you could say. Before, the only way I could get it to idle was with the timing retarded as far as it would go. Now it is in its stock setting. :bigok:

That set-up is a bitch @ times, especially when you go off the deep end and chrome plate the pulleys and such. I checked mine two or three times before I was confident I had it right. Congrats on the install and working out the bugs

Chrome plated...sounds nice. Yea, I also read that in order to set the timing you have to ground out the initial set coupler, otherwise the computer will just fight any adjustments you make. I must have missed that in the manual...among other things I guess.

its next to the battery, on the 86-88's its a 2 pin that you need to jump, on the 89+ its a 1 pin you need to ground. it took my awhile to figure out the timing on these things too.
