Running Fine Now Flooding!

Hey all newbie here, Ive gotta 88 RX7 with 90k I bought the car about 5 months ago and everything was fine. Now I left my car sittin for about 5-6 days. When I go back to start her it almost turned on the first shot but didnt make it and the next try it was flooded. I kept unflooding the engine and tryin again but nothin just maybe a little prop prop. All I did so far was a compression check, checked all fluids, battery connectings and grounds, spark plugs are 2 weeks old. Can someone please give me any tips or info on how I can get my car started. I dont wanna tow it to the rotary man in queens hes very far. Thanks alot

How were you unflooding the engine?



Make sure there is no spark and no fuel and then pull the plugs. Clean them off and then with them out, crank the engine. Just make sure to get all of the gas out. Then put things back in and try to start it.



If it still floods out maybe an injector got stuck open, although I don't know how in the heck that would happen just by letting it sit.



Do you have good spark?

i assume you did the EGI fuse trick? pull that fuse under the hood. it kills power to your fuel pump. go into your car, and crank the engine for like 15 seconds with the throttle fully open (pedal all the way down). put the fuse in and start it. what this does is spins all the fuel out of the engine, drying it out, prepping it for the next start. you might have to try this several times to get it unflooded.



rotaries flood easy, i suggest a fuel pump kill switch added to the interior of your car. that way, you dotn have to get out to unflood your engine.



also, if you have a standard, you might just be able to push start it to get things clear and going. hope this helps. if all else fails, you might have to go more indepth and pull the plugs and crank it over.

I did these procedures. Im going for the ATF trick hopefully this will work if not I dunno. Ill post later on today

this may sound dumb but are you sure its flooding?? Maybe its not getting enough fuel to run? I don't know... if you tried everything else??

I have spent up to a couple of hours getting my car unflooded before. It usually happens when you run the car for a short amount of time and then shut it off before it is fully warmed up, like if you just want to move it in the driveway or something. Like the others said pull the fuse and crank it for around 10 seconds. Do this a couple times, just don't do it so long you burn up your starter. Put the fuse back in and pull the plugs, clean them off and stick them back in. Now try starting it. If mine doesn't start at first I usually put the pedal to the floor and crank it.

Fc Maniac I dont know if its getting too much or no fuel, how would I be able to tell if its not gettin enough fuel? It almost tries to start it goes prop prop prop and then nothing. Also the oil lines from the MOP are bone dry I have oil in the car, shouldnt when I just crank it with starter power oil be sucked through the lines??cause this is not happening.

when you pull the plugs, are they dry too? Do you have a fuel pressure guage to check the primary rail? Are all the fuses ok? I'm not sure about the OMP, it should have some oil in the lines.. not much gets pumped through during cranking but I wouldn't expect them to be bone dry.

When I pull the plugs they are definitly not dry, there soaked well actually only the first one or two are so the others are dry. Fuses are good, I dony have a fuel pressure gauge. Now about the oil metering pump. I had someone crank the engine for about 10 seconds at a time and looked at the oil lines, nothing at all was goin through them. When I say nothing I mean NOTHING!That sounds a bit iffy to me hopefully if the car ever starts back up I can see if it suppose to be like that or not. Maybe the turning power of the starter is simply not enough to make the air pump suck oil. Also the first leading spark plug ( the plastic on the blaster coil) is eaten away by misfiring sparks I guess (after the coil before the wire "in the boot". Could this be a reason for hard starts??
