yeah me too, it was still running like a champ last week. I think I should have started premixing 200:1 or 300:1 just as precautionary measure. but oh well... still not bad considering I bought the car for $800 not running in apr 08(4.5 yrs ago not 3.5 yrs...) changed the starter, fuel pump, filter, and a bad coolant hose(the one that connects just under the oil filter). everything else was just reg maint. so for about 2 months payments on my old evo ix i drove an rx7 for 4.5 years, not bad. hopefully i can get this sucker pulled and taken apart soon to see what caused the seemingly rapid degradation of the rear rotor.

I'd like to know too. I've heard the NA engines can be pretty reliable but it seems not many make it over 200k. Im wondering if it's just the internals cant last or an external source like splitting OMP lines that prevent proper lubrication. My 86 has 215k and i just tore the top half down to replace intake gaskets and split metering lines. The oil doesnt turn very dark or get burned during use. It's still gold and full after 500 miles. I know nissan 4 bangers made around the time of the FC will last about 200k before timing chains and valve seals go but it's a simple fix (bout the same cost to overhaul a rotary) and it's good to go for another 200k. Or honda engines this age, about 200k they need to be re-ringed and new valve seals and good to go.. kinda wierd how they all work together.

Hmm... mine's 295k now and still running strong, compression reading is between 88 to 97 when the engine was tested around 290k.

Hey Guys im new here and my 87 has about 106k on it and idles and runs really rough feels comparable to losing a piston or 2 in a 4 cylinder any idea to what the cause may be ? already changed fuel filter spark plugs and wires and re-grounded ecu any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the TPS? That's usually where the culprit for idling.

As for running really rough, could you explain a bit more? It could be a number of different things.

not sure how to explain it other then it feels like a rotor is dead or something but i have compression and spark. as of today i cant get it to idle or stay runnning it was running kinda sounded like a go kart or a 4stroke dirt bike. had no power and was shaking really bad even at i higher rpm not sure what rpm my tach doesnt work and then it shut off now i cant get it to run for more then 15 seconds. i need a rotary pro lol

Sucks that we are very far apart and I don't know who you can seek help from where you are. Check your inbox though, I'm sending you info of my mechanic so that you can contact him to ask questions.
