I was thinking about setting the timing since I rebuilt the carb. I don't really know how to do that so I was just going to clean the plugs, dizzy cap, rotor, check for busted vac lines, ect. Also I'll usually switch the trailing plug to leading and visa versa since my leading plugs seem to get more wear.



Anyway, In the process of doing this I went to remove the boot from the rear trailing plug and I noticed the plug looked a little odd. It appears that goes down the center of the plug has broke off deep inside. I'm just REALLY glad the boot stayed on the plug. If it would have bounced off and started flying around my engine bay I would have been in serious trouble.



Heres a picture of the plug close up. I'm going to send a copy to NGK just so theyll know something like that can happen and I'm going to try to get a new plug from the parts store where I bought them. I may be wrong but I dont think this set of plugs is even a year old yet.



I could see the leading plugs melting, blowing up, shattering, ect since they see 45K volts a piece, but the trailing are only getting a little over 20K each.



Can't get anything made good these days.

It's possible I guess, but it just seems odd that I run them this long with (almost) no trouble. I mean, i've probably had them in there atleast a year. Only cleaned and rotated them once that I can remember.



There is quite a bit of corrosion on the stud...cant really see it in the picture because I rubbed most of it off.



Looking down in the plug I can still see the other end of that stud. So i guess it broke clean in two? It's atleast 12GA in diameter and its not copper as I first assumed since it sticks to an old car speaker.

Just be thankfull it broke on the OUTSIDE and not the inside!
