Maybe what you guys are talking about is removing the whole front instrument garnish and defroster grilles together. This is done in the 87 GXL by removing a single screw under that center cap between the two defroster grilles. The whole instrument panel garnish comes out with the defroster grilles still attached. I guess this could give access to the logicon plug. Interesting that the Haynes manual and the factory sercvice manual mentions nothing about this to access this plug.

I dunno. My FSM did mention it in the body area I think. I found out about it when I pulled my dash.
