My car's been like this since I got it. From 1st to 2nd, U have to shift in the shape of a 7. (what a coinkidink) It's not just straight down...it's over & down. I've alwys thought it was a locking mechanism of some kind, but I also have thought that something is wrong with my tranny. What could it be? I plan on having it rebuilt. Will this solve the problem?

I also agree that your shifter bushings are most likely the issue. The worst case scenario is that the bushings on your shift forks are worn out

Yes, there's alot of play. To shift to 2nd, U HAVE to push the shifter to the 'right' before it will go down.

Bushings...Hard to replace? Where can I get them and what will they run me?
