went to my first SCCA autocross event today. I did ok, once I got used to the track.. but I couldn't get out of first gear. If I went into second then I couldn't downshift back into first without coming to a complete stop. So the question I have is this a FD thing? I remember my FD in Japan having the same problem. And If it is.. is there some way to change it so that I can get into first without having to come to a complete stop?

I haven't been in many MTs that like to go into first unless they're under 5m/h. Coming to a complete stop before going into first seems a bit odd.

you should be able to go back into first at a low speed. You should'nt have to stop completly

well.. maybe not a dead stop

So is there anything that can be done to allow me to downshift from a faster speed?? i'm going to be having my tranny rebuilt here soon (damn syncro's) so I was wondering if there was something I could have done to change that little problem.

It seems weird that you would need to go back in first gear.

But if you really need to, double-clutching might work:

clutch in

take it out of gear

cutch out

clutch in

put it in gear

let the clutch out

ahh sorry, forgot to clarify. I'm running a T-66. So I don't even start spooling until around 4-5K RPM's. So shifting into second before a sharp turn and then trying to take off again slows me down.
