https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png Off all rx-7's it had to happen to a 10AE. I was thinking of calling the guy up and seeing what was wrong with it. I never would've figured that.

Good look finding an RX-7 FCjunkie. I drove mine for the first time today. Awesome ride. And mighty loud, I had no idea I was hitting 8000rpms.

I think i've found my Turbo II https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

1987 Turbo II

56k original miles

Never taken above 6,000RPM

Owner has had 6 other RX-7s

Never abused (owner is 46 years old)

Purchased in 2001 with 48k miles

Bone stock (wouldn't even let his son put in a boost controller)

$3000 in South Carolina (i'm in NoVA)

Said for extra, he'd deliver

I was thinking of backing away from the RX-7 due to the risk of too many problems, and was looking the realm of BMWs and Audis. I figured that once i'm out of college, I could have one as a weekend toy/project and that I might even be able to afford an FD3S. Now I just gotta talk to my dad about this...i mean...56k ORIGINAL miles!

Hmmmm. Seems nice. Good luck. Get the VIN and check the title. And 56k original miles?? Seems unlikely, but can happen.

FC3SJunkie 04-05-2004 09:24 PM

Definitely gonna check the VIN after the most recent fiasco. The owner bought it in 2001 and it had been garaged for three years

FC3SJunkie 04-06-2004 12:21 PM

Well, now my dad is being retarded. Bringing up things like "I don't think i'd want to buy a car I haven't seen yet" and "I'm concerned about the reliability of an RX-7." Just thought of an idea to combat the first issue: A friend and I wake up early on Sat. morning, drive down to South Carolina, meet the guys, drive the car. If I like it then my dad and I could meet them halfway the following weekend. If I don't like it, oh well...it's not like my car only gets 11 miles per gallon, so that's just $20 or $30 spent on gas.

Your dad is just looking out for you. He is playing the father role. My pops was the same way. They wanted me to buy a Jeep or a Chevy Cavalier or some piston powered car. I told them I wanted an RX-7. I looked for over a year until I found one that was about 2 hours from me. Went up and looked at it. FELL IN LOVE!! I don't care if it has minor dents, clear coat coming off, and needs new stock parts, but I loved it. I could not drive it, because the weather was really horrible. Drove it home, loved it even more. I just recently drove it by myself and gunned the **** out of it, and fell in love even more.

Now I need new shifter boots, new tires, and new radiator(smart thing to do).

He is looking out for you. Just tell him about the 787b that one the 24 hour Lemans. It beat the craph out of every other piston engine by about 6-8 hours. Mazda reps cracked open the engine, and it looked brand new, all the other piston powered cars where blown up. Granted, that was a 4rotor that was professionally done by mazda rotary technicians, but it gives you a broad idea. Ever I told my father that, the deal was sealed. I have also had alot of help from my neighbor who owns an FD, and he will be helping me out on a paint job, and a streetport.

Good luck.

Oh, he knows plenty about rotary engines. He used to own an RX-3 back in the day, and he got my mom an RX-4. It's not that he doesn't trust the rotary, he's just concerned because it'd be my daily driver. But, things are looking up. I found a '67 Porsche 911S, and insurance is only $10 more for that than the 7...and he's all about saving 10 bucks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

What the hell? I would NEVER buy a porsche in my life. Parts for those cars are SUPER expensive. If you have a hook up that is a different story.

That is like with my folks. They saw a Chevy Cavalier, so I looked at it. Hooked up fast and furious style. Muffler tip, just the muffler tip, chromed out POS rims, shaved decals and body moldings. And it was automatic.

I wanted 5 speed RX-7. Did not really care what year.

Good luck. And if he has had an RX-3 and an RX-4 he should know that Rotary engines are great. They just require more loving than a piston engine. In a piston engine you can not change the oil or run low on oil and it will be fine, but the rotary, you are just asking for trouble.

Good luck again.

Before purchasing get a compression check to see what shape the motors in

There's no anny tags on the so called 10th AE in that pic https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Your dad was right you shouldn't buy a car you haven't seen.

So did you go check it out or what, how did it go?

FC3SJunkie 04-08-2004 09:55 AM

As far as the "10AE" goes, it SORT OF looks like there's an emblem near the front right fender (the only one visable). Like I said, I could be wrong. I'll never be able to find out anyways, because the goddamn thing caught on fire. I'm well aware that I shouldn't buy a car I haven't seen, and that's the point of driving down to South Carolina, to see the car and test it before I actually decide to buy it. I don't know when i'll be able to go to SC to look at it, but hopefully it'll be soon.

As far as compression tests, is there a way I could get a tester to bring with me? Could I rent one from a dealership or parts store, or would I have to buy one?

Edit: You're right, there doesn't appear to be an emblem. Maybe it's damage to the car (paint scrape) or something like that. Either way, it still looked like a nice car from the pic https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png
