Ok, so there's a 10AE in my area for sale at a dealership for $4,000. 118k miles on the clock. I don't trust dealerships too much, so I might look for another one. If I decide to do so, should I see if they have all the service records? If not, should I just back away? There's also another TII about 10 minutes from my dorm at a dealership with 80k miles for 500 less, so I have another option.

Its hard to judge with dealerships, some can be so nice but great liers. Otheres mean and grumpy but are telling the cold hard truth LOL. Right away the AE is worth more because of being the Aniversarry addition. There are a few guys on her that have AE's and may be able to help you on what to look for besides the common FC things. Like you mentioned, start by trying to get all documents that may be available....

Wow. A 10AE? For that price? Super cool. If there is no problem with the AE, I would buy that one before the regular TII.

What type of condition is it in? I would ask for some sales receipt on what has been done with the car, not just modifcation ****, just mechanical problems.

If you don't buy it, could you possibly tell me where it is located??? I am not too far from you.

Hey, off topic question. Do you know about the Maryland BBQ going on in July?

FC3SJunkie 04-01-2004 07:58 PM

Yea, I was shocked about the price of the 10AE as well. I have a feeling that they don't know it's a 10AE if they're selling it for that much. As of right now, I don't know the condition of the car other than the pic I saw. Here's a link to the ad on AutoTrader: 10AE Of course, I might be wrong about it being a 10AE, but i'm pretty sure of it. If you look on the fender, there's something there by the door (kind of in the shadow) that looks like a 10AE emblem. Sadly, I have to wait until July if I get this car...hopefully no one will take it before then https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Also, I had no idea of the Maryland BBQ. Definitely have to bring my new FC up there though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Oh, forgot to mention. I've got the VIN number, so if someone could hook me up with a carfax report? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

I think Robx-7 can give you one. Just start a new thread in General Discussion for a carfax report. Or there is a actual forum on here at the bottom I think.

It is hard to say if it is a true 10AE. It has leather seats, but does not say if it is has ABS. And a "special audio system". If it is a 10AE, it is well worth the buy. And they have no clue what they have, because it says 4 Cylinder Turbo.

Good luck, and if you don't buy it I will consider giving the guy a ring and offer him some cash and sell my 88 SE.

The maryland BBQ is on July 17th in Crofton,MD. It is all rotary powered cars, and Pre-1975(i think, may be 68)V8's. Yeah, pistons. It just makes it more interesting. More info here. http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?s=&t...25&pagenumber=1 Hope to see you there with a FB,FC,or FD in hand.

I can't seem to find the General Discussion forum. Could you post a link?

I'll ask Robx-7 and see if he can help me out. I'm a little put off by that whole 4 cylinder thing, which makes it seem that there could be problems with it seeing as they obviously have no idea about the car. Another option I have is an '89 (i think) GTU with 10k on a rebuilt engine. But like I said, this isn't gonna be purchased until July. Thanks for your help https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

The forum on rx7club is in the NE Forum near the bottom of the page. It has the info on the Md BBQ.

A GTU? Those are hard to find. And no problem, always willing to help.

marcus7 04-02-2004 07:15 PM

An 89 GTU is the base model. Not to be confused with the 88 GTU, which replaced the 86 and 87 Sport.

So I went to the dealership to check this possible 10AE out, and this is how the conversation with the dealer went:

Dealer: "Can I help you today, sir?"

Me: "Yes, your ad on Auto Trader says you have a 1988 Mazda RX-7 here?"

D: "Ooohh...yea...did you call earlier?"

M: "No."

D: "Well, turns out there was a leaky fuel line and the car um...caught fire. It's being repaired right now, but you can still buy it once the work is finished"

M: "Not a chance *walks back to his car* "

I had someone run a carfax report for me and it turns out it has a salvage title...that was issued in 19-*******-92! Apparently there was severe damage done to the car.

Just a friendly reminder to ALWAYS check CarFax before you buy a car...

sweet... i was gonna say walk in there and tell him you'll give him a grand for it... but not now.. the frame is prob. garbage...
