How about an update? How is it holding up?
Its holding up great. Magnaflows are weird. They get quieter as they warm up. This was comfirmed by a few friends who had magnaflows on other cars as well. No problems, no blown mufflers. The only little issue Ive had is with the pass side section of the y slips out a little after a few weeks, and starts rattling against the bumper. I need to get a different form of clamp that holds it more securely there. Maybe Ill break down and get 2 more v bands...

The tips dont get hot enough to melt the bumper.

btw, I dont know how I missed this before.

Sweet, thanks for the update. I think I'm going to copy your setup one of these days, but keep my stock cat in favor of the dynomax bullet. I work at a place where I've been getting major welding experience, and pipes / mufflers are pretty cheap compared to a full catback from a brand name.

Oh, and a side note. One of my friends, who has heard about every exhaust Ive had on my car was commenting on how truly amazing it sounds. It doesnt have the typical n/a raspiness/2 stroke sound. Its deep, its smooth, and its mean. And it will set off car alarms from a spectacular distance. Ill see about getting a few soundclips. I have never heard a better sounding exhaust on an RX7, let alone a ported n/a.

Have you ever gotten around to running that thing in the quarter mile? I want to know how fast it is. I might just keep mine NA forever . . there are so many other (suspension / tires) mods I would rather do at this point than try to add forced induction. Some pretty wimpy cars can be fast as hell on the autocross course, because they have torque, tires, and a driver who really knows how to drive the **** out of them. That's the kind of racing that gets me excited.

Picture a runner doing a marathon only breathign through his nose. Thats how my car is running right now. Im working on a new intake manifold to fix that problem.

I really want to get out to the track, even with this shitty intake manifold. Get a nice baseline for the new manifold. But as much as I hate to say it, I really need to focus my attention on the SA. Ive got way too much work to get done in the time period Im hoping to have it finished by. And on top of that, I doubt Ill stay n/a. Im not looking forward to making more than one manifold...

What do you think about the dynomax superturbo mufflers for the final silencers? They are cheap as dirt at summit, and look like a mandrel bent S shaped pipe with perforations inside the cansiter. I downloaded some soundclips of them off the dynomax site and they are the quietest mufflers they have.

Ill let you know in when I finish the SA. I plan on running one of those on it.

I thought you said it was quiet?

The killing of the rasp - did that happen only after installing the Spiralflows or was it flat and muted (err I mean smooth and deep) beforehand?

Its relatively quiet. It is a far cry from stock, but livable. The tone is very deep, which is what sets off the shock sensors on car alarms.

The spiral flows are what really smoothed out the exhaust. It was buzzy/raspy before them. And A LOT louder.
