How important do u guys think the rear differential bushings ares?

Todays Progress.
Stripped down the donor S4 Harness Started laying out the Haltech Harness Got Parts Together for Mondays Trip to SDJ Motorsports |
Your suspension is only as tight as your loosest component
|
looks like i'll make some delrin bushings then.

Would you say it makes the car drive much nicer? I have reason to suspect (pretty bad clunk from driveline slop) that the rear diff bushings are bad. I replaced the front diff mount (stupid block thing in shear) with a mazdaspeed comp unit. Does installing delrin rear diff mounts mimic welding the front diff mount to teh subframe feel? |
ok forget the above question.
New question. Why did jimlab choose Nylon 6-6 17% glass fibre reinforced instead of delrin? Delrin absorbs less moisture, but nylon 6/6 has greater tensile strength. Is that the reason? |
Does the cryogenic process actually increase the entire stress/strain curve including the proportional limit and yeild point or does it just increase the ultimate strength or the nominal rupture strength? The reason I ask is if it doesn't increase the proportional limit or the yeild point then it is only going to keep it from breaking, or increase the ultimate strength. If it only increases the ultimate strength than it doesn't seem that worthwhile considering that the yeild point would still be the same, so if you go over the yeild point whatever thing you have will be out of spec. While it would be nice that it could handle a greater force you wouldn't want to raise the working stress limit cause you risk permanently deforming the object.
Do you guys want me to make a thread for when I do my buildup? It's going to be a PP turbo, with much aide from Banzai. Keep up the good work buddy, lets see pics of the final airbox design, and the slashed up aluminum TII hood. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png - Hand |

Only good it does it cleans any biological agents off the part without affecting the temper/heat treament of the part. THe phase transitions stop at around 100C, almost nothing happens below that temp. |

You actually bothered to waste money on cryo treating? I thought u were an engineer. Brand new S4 LSD? wow big $$$$
Aaaaaah you book types are soooooo easy to reel in! Spent the evening at SDJ dropping off the ring and pinion. Gleened a lot of info from Stan. Verified the parts I needed to order from mazdacomp with him. Diff will be ready next week. We had a long and lengthy discussion on vrious coatings and the pros and cons of each. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Btw, the Cryo was not the primary treatment. But the shop I use packages it with another coating service. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png |
And the Airbox design may change yet again..............

Today I had an informative conversation with Mr. Hanover, and commenced to redesigning the intake. Cup of tea, some kick ass music from SIRRIUS on the Shop Surround sound system, a quick trip over to the bandsaw..........and VIOLA`
The beginnings of the new intake. This will give me the ability to vary the length of the runners very easily!!! This was only the first mock-up so everything is taped and squee-jawed into approximate positions. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif [attachment=27615:attachment] [attachment=27616:attachment] |
A little close to the alt? looks good though.
|
very nice, where did you buy the aluminum U bend from?
|
That one is mild steel, for mock-up purposes. Cheaper to hack up for experiments. The AL will come from burns or the place in MI
|
Lookin' good banzai. Can't wait for some video. Hopefully some dyno runs.

what radius bend is that? I like the increased length of the pipe before the port, should give the air a nice path. If you wouldn't mind keeping the numbers for that manifold around till later this summer, it would be appreciated https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

opps. i'm an idiot, I didn't paste the URL into the post.
Here ist eh place that does mandrel bends, for a very good price. It's 6063, not 6061 which is lots more $$$ since u have to turn it into O grade then after the bend re-heat treat it to T6. http://www.promical.com/html/____aluminum_bends.html |
Promical dissappeared early last year. No contact info, no e-mail
BUT NEVAH FEAR!!!! BANZAI IS HERE: I have located a reasonably priced source of 6061 AL Bends, only down side is they dont have 180º bends or anything over 90º. If there is enough interest I will list it in my webpage |

I have been busy in the shop with a bandsaw, razor knife, foamboard and a hot glue gun!
This is the runner hot-glued to a foam-board flange. I am not happy with it yet. There is a "kink" in the lower portion. Tommorow I will adjut the angle of incidence into the ITB. But I am very pleased with the concept. Couple of things I have to do: 1.Torque limiter strap to prevent intake from hitting the strut tower 2. Heat Shield to limit heat xfer to intake [attachment=27643:attachment] [attachment=27644:attachment] [attachment=27645:attachment] [attachment=27646:attachment] [attachment=27647:attachment] |
what you need is a SLA rapid prototyping machine. So you can grow your parts.
|
G2G: That tube is 3.5" CLR
Cheers: I WISH!!!!!!!! Some further points. I have 2" Clearance above the injector rail, I am going to reduce that to 1" (For hood clearance) [attachment=27648:attachment] |
Ok, spent the morning measuring and hacking away. I have completed a runner I am satisfied with. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Get back to work! |
How much tuning effect is that tube going to have with it being on the upstream of the throttle?
Doesn't the butterfly valve disrupt the pressure wave? |

Doesn't the butterfly valve disrupt the pressure wave? DYNO Testing and Tuning will tell. PLus: Dont get to attached to those butterflys! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif Status: Pulled HALTECH harness from car. pulled unused harness branches back and tied for future use. Found a taped over unused ground in harness!!!!! GRRRR. Laid out some 14GA and 18GA leads in harness for future use. Incorporated stock Windhield wiper harness and Alt Harness into Haltech harness along with the mazda firewall grommet |
Is the p side motor mount done? If so you might consider adding some triangle peices to the sides.
Lookin good, should be a fun ride. GregW |
GMON. Still have some weldding to do on the mount. The casting outgassed really bad, so I need to grind and reweld.
The first pic today is part of the E6X harness. The harness is being secured with lacing and wrapped in BANZAI-WRAP. I had some sample gry that I am using under the dash. This harness incorporates: 1. Haltech, Unused branches are coiled neatly under the dash. 2. Wiper Harness 3. E2 Connector to Alt, maintains charging status on stock dash 4. Stock Water Temp Sensor [attachment=27784:attachment] This shot shows the unused branches and the BA-26 Plug to hook up Stock Coils and relay'ed power https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png [attachment=27785:attachment] Here is a view of BANZAI-WRAP and a length of lacing cord [attachment=27786:attachment] A Close up of a Spot-Knot. who's kenneth howard! I'm gonna kick his ass!
nice bench btw, if i had my tools that organized i'd be afraid to use them and get them out of order |
