Ok, It's kinda complicated and annoying. In short i have a coolant leak somewhere. Or i did at least. Car was in the garage and had a nice pool of the green stuff underneath it. I checked the fluid level and it had only dropped a little so i just filled it up to full. Then i drive the car two days later. it was fine. parked it started it up and my coolant light and buzzer came on. The buzzer and light would cut in and out on my 10 minute trip home, i watched the stock temp gauge carefully(yes, i know it isn't that great.) and it didn't overheat. I got home check the coolant level and it was fine. Anyone have any idea what is going on? i do not want my car to overheat because then i am skarewed. Let me know what you guys think. thanks

you dont need to top off the coolant level on the filler neck..

as long as the level is visible within the neck your fine...

If its full when its cold, it will overflow when it gets hot.

Hmm. if your water pump is old, check underneath it. There is a peep hole underneath the pulley that will leak coolant when the bearing is going bad. See if you see have any dried up coolant coming from there, is hard to see. Second option, pressurize the system to see where is leaking from. The plastic radiator ends tend to leak also after long use. See how if you have any crusty coolant onthe fins near the tanks.





Last place to check is the coolant line underneath the oil filter.

A pressure test will confirm where the leaks comes from.

it's full up to the fill line not up to the top. i will try opening up the bleeder valve to see if that helkps prige the air bubbles

take a towel, and open the radiator cap after the car has been running for a while, the overflow tank may bubble, then fill it, (I have had several cooling system problems since I got my car) if you find it is still leaking, check the heater hose under the oil filter, that goes to the firewall, and check the seams of the radiator itself, it can spring a leak where the aluminum meets the plastic (my current problem, perfect excuse to get a nice Koyo aluminum radiator)
