So I was headed to the Hershey Import War today, and me and my friends pull into a "HESS" gas station and as we are coming out and are headed to our cars I start to smell that damn dreaded sweet smell of coolant... I look under my car and there by my passenger side front wheel is a small trickle of a coolant leak. I popped my hood and there was burning coolant fumes coming from the plastic Coolant Resevoir tank. (or at least in that area). I high tailed it back to my friends house and turned her off. I look under the car again and there is nothing... No trickle of coolant and no sweet smell???? I'm so confused. My temp never rose at all, and the coolant buzzer never went off. We went to the show for about 4 hours, and then came back to his house so I could check on my FD. Not a sign of a single drop of coolant. I checked the level and it's also fine. I drove home after that which is about 20-25 miles, and checked everything as soon as I parked and everything was fine... Anyone have any ideas??? My best guess is that damn plastic reservoir tank. But when it was leaking at the gas station that one time it was a pretty significant leak, and now nothing.

Nah i dont think the AST is his problem.

I think your coolant tank is cracked, and when the coolant is expanding it is leaking, but when cold it isnt to the crack yet.

Yeah, I mean I have only ever seen it leak once and it appeared to be coming from what looked like to be a rubber washer at the base of the neck of the overflow tank. I already have a Pettit AST and that thing is perfect so it's not that. I'm talking about that bs plastic tank on the other side of the engine. Anyway I called my local Mazda dealership and they want $135.00 for one..... UGHH!! Talk about money down the drain!!! Somebody needs to come out with an aluminum unit like the aftermarket ASTs and mass sell them!
