i need some serious help here, my 87 non-turbo has and intermittent studoring problem, it will fall on its face while driving every once in a while, at idle it likes to jump up to about 1500rpm, then fall back down, ive checked almost everything, no vacuum leaks, all electrical seems to be working fine, might have fuel pressure issues, and it has been smoking quite a bit on first start up, but goes away after it warms up, if anyone can hlep me it would be great, the car only has 150,000 on it, will plst pics soon.

If you haven't done the usual tune-up stuff, now's the time. Change the fuel filter. Check the fuel pressure. I would run a compression check before I put a lot of time and money into it, just to be safe.

There are lots of discussions on intermittent and high idle speed, and I think there's something in the FAQ. Good luck.

Clogged cats?, or low compression?

90% of running problems are caused by low compresion.

my exhaust has been completely open for quite some time now, tps is working fine and it puts out a bluish grey smoke, but it will quit smoking after about 2 min of running, no loss of performance, and its not a consictant hesitation, it only does it every so often
