Well i just came back from T&R racing. They did my transmission swap for $600. I checked there transmission mounts they made its nice, everything is fine. They even installed my SS brake lines and bled my brake lines.

Now my problem isnt the work T&R Racing did its the ******* Transmission from the 89GTU.

First of all the transmission is a 88, even though the cars a 89.

When the car is idling theres a knocking noise. It sounds like when lets say a flywheel is spinning and a small circular rod is rubbing alongside the teeth. Thats the noise it makes.

IN first gear it makes the noise mad loud. The same rod rubbing along the teeth sound. And you can kind of feel it in the shift **** itself, like something is loose and dangling inside and it rubbing on something causing the noise.

Tony said its the transmission itself.

Once you shift into second its fine, the noise goes away and the car rides good all the way thru 5th gear.

I only stalled it once when i tried to take off in second gear, the RPMS have to be around 2.5k RPM to take off.

The other problem is that when its in second i think the car should be around 30mph , or i would guess. But at 2omph it sounds like its whinning like its time to shift, when i hit third i can go up to like 60mph and then it begins whinning to be shifted.

So now should i just get a new transmission case (gearbox) or have this one rebuild?

Rob got any transmission for sale...

Jason, NYC

EDIT: The transmission is making mad ******* HEAT, its cooking the fat right off my bones. Is this heat a sign of a bad transmission?

$600 sounds a little too cheap for all the work you are talking about, shoot us some pics of the work when you get a chance.

better yet ill make a video of the sound that it makes and everything.

I dont think he would **** it up by not lubing everything properly, and the first thing he told me was its not the throw out bearing. Thats the transmission itself

Make sure the fluid is topped up

That's all you can really do

That's bad though man, If the gear oil is topped up, get a new transmission man.. Sorry to say...

At least then you could do it yourself.. No fabrication involved, just bolting it off and back up...

Sorry about your luck though if the transmission is shot, go talk to the guy you got it from...

FYI find an N/A transmission with the case and bellhousing ribbed.. It's very noticeable

The smooth bellhousing indicates S4 or older...

They are a dime a dozen, you shouldn't have a hard time finding one.

Also FYI, Rob offers a transmission rebuild service with warranty on it if you look in the parts for sale sticky at the top... Next one you get, don't spend much on it, just get it to Rob or Rob's guys, have them juice it up with a warranty and you are good to go

yeah i was debating about just rebuilding it and getting a warranty. I would need a price on that and a guarentee it would be good. Theres a guy on this forum selling a "Excellent Condition" 88 RX7 tranny in FL for $175 + $90 shipping. IM thinking about just gettting it from him. Im waiting for some specs on it though to see whats good.

ALso when i reverse its a lil more fidgity that i would expect and it jerks.

I stalled the car on purpose a few times to see its limits and it stalls really rough. ANd when your about to stall it i can hit the clutch pedal and i can bring it back from its grave.

I can start the car without depressing the pedal. ( i tried )

This is my first full time stick car and i drove it from t and r all the way home and only stalled it once when i tried to take off from second gear. Which is pretty good since i only drove stick here and there when they were available all for less than 20 minutes lol

Yeah im not going to take it back to T&R to get it dropped i will do it myself.

EDIT: Colin

NOTE: I bought the entire car for $200. SO ima sell that **** for parts likke theres no tomorow to make back the $600 job, and the cost of the car. (Will try)
