Hello Everybody.

I recently purchased my very first RX-7. Its a 1990 non-turbo with about 80k miles on it. Naturally, I'm new to the wonderful world of rotary engines. I don't know a whole lot about rotary engines, so i was wondering, what are some good ways to raise the horsepower and torque (especially low end). I also plan to add a turbo. Should i do any internal mods to increase the overall integrity of the engine first. Any info, input, comments, links,etc. would be very much appreciated.

 

Congrats and a turbo upgrade is possible but always $$$...want HP, get rid of the cats and put headers to str8 pipe to RB exhaust. And you ROTARYS RULE man..goood luck

Try all the Bolt-on parts first, these little motors do not make much torque in non-turbo form. From what i have heard, the mazdatrix dual exhaust will greatly increase torque, it costs a pretty penny though.

 

It wouldn't make a very reliable engine to turbo charge an NA. Too much compression is bad for turbos.

 

It will bring you years of joy if you treat it right.



Like the others said full header back exhaust is a good idea and I would get a clutch and flywheel. this should put you in the low 15s I think. Turboing an NA isnt a very good idea unless you like spending money.

I know you have to drop the compression if you add a turbo. In a piston engine you just add a thicker head gasket. How would i lower the compression in my RX-7? I owuld have to buy a new howsing would i?
