Low Rpm Is Bad For Rotaries, But Why?

just found out something about the previous owner of my car from someone who knew him... said that he doesnt think the guy overheated it because the guy supposedly babied the car and would have shut it off at the first sign of trouble. I dont know. I also don't know what this would do, but I was told that the guy drove it like he was an old lady, always drove it gently and low rpm. I was like WHAT THE @#$#@# did he have a rotary for then??!?!?!?! Would lots of low rpm driving clog a cat? or would it more than likely be excessive carbon in the engine due to the low rpm useage? Would the carbon cause the compression to drop more as the engine heats up?

yep, driving it hard keeps the carbon out.



someone said that you can undo a vac line and put it in some water with the car running, and it will clean the carbon out.

redline once a day keeps the carbon away.

so what does the carbon do? how does it effect the way the engine runs? could this be my problem?

I've done this on other ones before, you have to get the r's up for that too work, or the water will kill the engine.... I can't get the r's up on mine :[

Im not sure about water, that might lead to problems...



What I used to do on my 3000GT to blow out carbon deposits in the intake and heads (and some of the exhaust system) was take off the brake booster vacuum line and suck in Seafoam. That stuff works wonders.

just take out the air cleaner, pour a few cups of water in there, hold the rpm up high.....



the lazy way, ha



or just drive the crap out of it for a few days?

the carbon will make your seals get stuck.
