12 lbs in a rotary with not much TQ any way you will have to rev the **** out of that thing to get it moving. I would stick to one of the heavier lightweights if I were you.

Don't bother with a 17lb



I went from OEM to 12lb, and, yes it made a difference, but anything weighing more than 12lbs is not worth the effort to remove that 54mm nut.

Have you ever had a 12lbs flywheel on your 7? Standing starts weren't that much different than my stock flywheel. And this is including a lot of starts on steep hills.

Whatever flywheel you go with, you may want to keep in mind that the way in which the flywheel is built is of much greater importance than the weight. If I had to do it again, I would go with a RB 12# rather than my 17#, but in either case, RB removes much of the weight at the outer edge of the wheel, where it makes a difference. The point being that it’s possible to buy a 12# flywheel that behaves like one weighing more than Racing Beat’s 17 pound unit.



You 12# guys, does the AC engaging at a stoplight create enough of a load to stall the engine?

get a racing beat 12lb. Its light enough that you will feel a real difference. Hill starts might be tougher, but its still doable. The 17, i personally think is still a little heavy, and any lighter is too much.

i have put over 6000 miles on my setup(check my sig) and can say it is very streetable but that is usually up to the driver.

I am still deciding what I should do. If I am to spend the money on a lighter flywheel I suppose I would want one that will make it worth my while.



A 12 pound flywheel sounds good. I have driven other cars (240 SX and Acuras)with lighter flywheels and I was able to accelerate from stops well enough. That was with engines with a little more low end torque response.



I am just afraid of my FC becoming non-street-able for DD.



Are there any other makers of 12 pound flywheels for N/A S4 s?



I am interested in what others have experienced with their flywheels in their RX-7s



BTW; I am going to be using a new OEM clutch set up.

I say go all the way or dont bother.It will make the engine more responsive, thats the point. Its the heavy FW that saps power and response.



Its not so much the 12 lb FW that makes the car "unstreetable" Its more because people go with an agressive cluch setup.



I wouldnt use an oem cluch with a lightweight. Not only because your acelleration will be better, but you will also be slipping it more on a launch. There are good aftermarket clutches thet are still pretty tame. Go with Racing Beat 12LB.
