I have a bit of extra cash to go to my lady, my RX-7.

I will be replacing the clutch and want to upgrade with a lighter flywheel for a bit more zip in the mountains.

What recommendations have you guys?

Any place in particular to purchase a well built flywheel?

Good maker?

Experiences?

Any input would be appretiated.

I believe all light flywheels perform about the same.

I have a 12 lb steel flywheel with a copper/ceramic 6-puck clutch, and I shift gears just for the fun of it.

Pressing into an oblique right from 70 MPH with 4 double pedal downshifts in 150 ft is a blast.

The only thing I find tricky is medium starts in daily driving.

I assume you know you will also need a counterweight.

Yes I was also considering Racing Beat's steel 17 LB flywheel. I want it lighter but not to light as to make it troublesome on the streets.

the aluminum flywheel isnt that bad on the street imo.

i like my steel flywheel, its what the car should have had stock.

the aluminum ones are fine on the street too.

stay away from the puck style clutches, they arent fun on a daily basis

Lighter isnt always better. It depends on your application, what were you planning on doing with the car.

i have a super lightweight flywheel, came on my jspec, donno specs on it, i would say it's about 9.5lbs comparing it to my buddies 12 lb on, revs real fast and makes boost quick
