see i am also causioned but this same thing... i dont know the condition of my engine either so i'd like to put a good 1k or so miles on it before i do ANYTHING. and already i'm breaking belts which stop the water pump which overheats the engine. but i can't wait untill i have the money to rip that black box out and upgrade the exhaust. and boost a little higher. and start playing with some bigger boyz

I was running 14 - 15 psi on my set up (mods in sig.), stock turbo too. I wouldn't recomend it, but the car ran good before a bad bearing killed my engine.
You mean to tell me that you were boosting 15 psi with the stock turbo? My turbo must definitely be focked! I didn't think the stock turbo could boost that high. I'm not even getting 8 psi out of mine. Makes me wonder if I need to go for the compressor upgrade. Maybe just a rebuild. I really don't want to go higher than 10 or 12 psi right now.

is there anything else i should look into. I'm tryin to do this on a budget which may be the problem cuz speed costs money. but if i do the intake/exhaust/injector combo's what other gauges should i get... i know an aftermarket boost, but what esle should i pickup to monitor my engine.

this way i may have a chance of keeping it from running lean.

If you leave the stock air box in place that will keep your boost down at a safe level.
