im an ***, tranny fluid is under the car? anyone have pic? ^^ half the time i look at my car, i get really really lost and confused. but im trying to learn ><



oh another minor problem that has plagued me since i got car. it idles at 750rpm, which is normal, but if the car is cold, and i shift into gear it will go up to around 1k rpm. but if car is nice and warmed, when i shift into gear, it will drop to 200rpm, sometimes dying. so i can never drive with clutch down in gear, if i want to coast, i always have to throw it in neutral. its not a big deal, but its annoying. sometimes i just wanna coast for like 5 seconds, so i press down clutch, and engine starts to die ><



thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it. hate to sound like a nub. i love my car dearly, but i dont have much time to do and learn all the things about it. slowly i will.

the vert i had did the same thing, i always used it for a hand warmer

My 90GXL had this.



Under your leather or other fabric "style boot", there should be at least 1 rubber boot, I have 2.. inner and outer. Bought off ebay. Yours are probably torn if they are still there. Replace these and be good to go.



Tranny fluid change wouldn't be a bad idea either, but I'm willing to bet that the rubber boot will fix your problem.

Topping off the fluid is not the same as changing it. But it doesnt matter because 2 of the seams on my shift boot are torn and I can always feel heat coming out of there. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

mine does just about the same thing! mine only dies occasionaly tho, not all the time. its annoying thats for sure. i find myself watching the RPMs coming to a stop instead of the road

On my 87 GXL, there is the leather shift boot with the ties that tie around the shifter. Underneath that there is not only the round rubber that fits downover the shifter but there is also a type of insulation. it is not foam but some other type of insulating material about an inch thick. Mine still gets warm but not really hot. It has been like this for 18 years now with no problems.



If you are missing any of those, excessive heat can rise up through that area and certainly get the shifter hot. Nothing is necessarily wrong.

oh thank you all for the peace of mind. i thought my tranny was gonna explode and launch my car into orbit. i will change the tranny fluid soon as i have some time, thanks for the suggestions all.



hmm, no one knows about why my dashboard clock wouldnt be working?



or why my engine dies when i put it in gear even with clutch completely down?



again, any replies greatly appreciated ^^b

As far as the dashboard clock, they were notorious for failing. It is the soldering I believe that is breaking down and the clock stops working. Same reason folks have had problems with the A/C Logicon, the idiot lights, etc, etc....



You can remove the panel where the clock is and try re-soldering the joints or buy a new one. I would not worry about it unless you just have to have the clock.
