Peronally I think the pressure plate is to blame...my old motor made 302ft lbs last year.. The new motor is probably around the same ammount as that.. however, my torque peak is quite high, around 5000+ rpm .. as long as I launch below 5000rpm, the clutch will hold.. however, anythign above that and I'm greeted with the sound of the redline buzzer and the car not moving .. once the car is in motion, the clutch holds right through the gears.. only if I try and do 2nd gear 5000rpm clutch drops from a roll (yes.. very abusive) will the clutch slip again...



I'm concidering replacing just the pressure plate with a HD one to give me a bit more clamping force.. however, I'm kind of afraid what that would do with the clutch disc itself.. it's a sprung clutch.. I don't know if I trust the springs from not ripping off the rivets on a hard launch...



Another things to note is tire grip as well.. last year with the ACT 6 puck, I was running 225/50/16's in the rears.. on hankook k103 tires.. they were a good deal, and didn't perform too bad.. I could light up those tires pretty easily..

This year I'm running 245/45/16's in the rear .. Falken GRB's .. these tires have loads more grip than the hankooks ever did.. and I have yet been able to light the tires up due to the slipping clutch... perhaps if I was running the older tire setup, I would see less clutch slip and more tire spin...

Has anyone tried the other clutch on ebay, the blue colored one? In the add it states it's a carbon/metalic clutch which is supposed to be better then the copper/ceramic(safer,more durable- or so their add claims).they are about the same price.

Chris, I don't know what your budget is like but dropping and reinstalling the tranny is pretty high as a $hitty crappy job I don't like doing. So if I was going under there I would make sure I put in the right parts so I don't need to do it for a 3rd time. I got the spec clutch stage 3 which holds 425 ft-lbs of torque. It's not bad, the pressure plate is nice to drive with, just not use to having the disc bite down so hard at the lights. I've got Yoko ES100 245/45/16 tires on the back as well, although I haven't tried to masscre my clutch yet (spec told me to let it break in for 400 miles+), i've only done 300 kms



I would highly recommend the staeg 3 kit from spec, you may want to wait a bit to see if it will hold up to the track when I get the car back there in august. My second recomendation is to go buy racing beat Street strip pressure plate and the Racing beat 6 puck sprung disc. Go buy it from fc3s.org, dave is very very accomedating when it comes to shipping items to Canada and will pretty much help you reduce your taxes across the boarder.





So for today's thought... it is difficult driving the 6 puck clutch with flip flops. That is the last time I will do that.
