Thumbs down

hey all,

i have a 88 rx-7 that i traded someone and it started up great run's great, but it has only one problem that i can not figure out. it will not go into any gear reverse, or drive, low, nothing. i check the tranny fluid and it's good, and it has good color to it also. so i am really lost. my next step is to drop the pan see if there is any metal in it. and when i change into defferent gears the RPM's changes like normal.

if anyone knows of anything it could be, please let me know. i am also thinking it may be the torque converter.

Thank You

What do you mean exactly, how are you changing into different gears when you can't get it into gear? Or do you mean, the RPM drops in the car slightly when you shift into D or R? If it's the latter of the two;

Test the stall speed of the torque converter by (making sure the car is warm first) putting it in gear, and revving the engine up slowly (be careful incase the car lurches ahead).

A failed torque converter makes noise and raises its stall speed, meaning it takes more RPM before the car will actually move.
