Other way around, R12 is very expensive, and you have to be a certified A/C guy to buy it. I think last time I did an A/C job it was $135 per pound, most cars need like 2 pounds. R134 is available ANYWHERE, you could probably even buy it at Albertsons. They make an additive for R134 that helps it get a LOT colder. My Toyota work truck blows 58 degrees on a 100 degree day https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
R134a, actually, this year quadrupled in price, they're preparing for the new release, either called 134b or i think R152. cant recall exactly. but R12 is the most expensive, R134a used to be like 1/5th of the price but as i said the price for 134a has quadrupled this summer....and thats wholesale cost, we double that and then sell to the consumer :P

If you do some reasearch they make some pretty nice ac units for muscle cars that never came with it. All it is is a box that runs off a 12v source with some lines you plumb into the heater vents. There is no pump that runs off the motor and you cn use a relay and a dedicated circuit from you Hlatech to run it. Just a thought.

I heard there was a change over from R12 to R134 between '93 and '94. Does this mean that '93 Rx7s used R12 and '94s used R134?

If you guys are doing the A/C yourselves, make sure you're aware of the dangers - if you inhale that R134A stuff you will get lung cancer, and if somehow it was heated up it can kill you within hours.

lung cancer from one incident?
