I'd never touched a turbo till that day and it took me about 10 min to get it off give or take. Of course I've had the manifold off my NA a LOT over the last few...

ILUVMY88CABRIO 06-23-2002 05:07 PM

So did you get a chance to drive it before you ripped it apart?

Rotarydragon 06-23-2002 07:20 PM

Ohhh yeah. After about 3k in 1st gear it just flat throws you back in the seat and GOES. Gears of course were a bit rough but still manageable and I can double clutch if needed https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Can't wait to get it back together with synthetic oil in the tranny and differential.

Now I want to do a turbo conversion https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Of course I've always WANTED to, but I'll more then likely beef up an N/A first just cause.

Hey, look...a thread with my name on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I would love to replace the clutch, since it'd be really easy right now, but I don't have the cash for the parts. This is already costing me more than I had expected just because I want to do it right, and do a tune-up while I'm at it.

Back to the T/O bearing...I'll give the symptoms again to see what else could be the problem. First of all, it whines and rattles with the clutch out, but as soon as I push the clutch in, it gets quiet. Second, on rare occasions, it's tough to put into gear and grinds going into first. On other rare occasions, the car jumps forward a little while in gear with the clutch in. What else should I check to make sure I don't have to pull the tranny again?

Rotarydragon...I apologize for bringing my car over...doing a turbo conversion and getting the paint job for yours is going to cost you an arm and a leg. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ed just look for a used race clutch on thepartstrader. you can usually find a good deal https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

The parts trader is broken right now. The clutch still grabs fine, even though it's stock and old.

Check the clutch hydraulics. That may be the cause of the unknown engagement.

The rattling sounds like the T/O bearing, but if it looks good who knows. Is the transmission front cover ok? You should change both the pilot bearing and seal if you can get them out. Otherwise just give them some grease.

When you spin the bearing fast enough you can feel the bearings rubbing so it's not in the greatest shape that's for sure.

Dunno if you want to save the cash for a clutch or not, be nice to do it while its out . . . not that I mind pulling it again!

What should we look for on the cover? I've not been out to examine it since we pulled it all. Don't have the puller for the pilot bearing :(

Moly grease?
