We sucessfully pulled the tranny out of UniqueTII's car and found the coolant leak. Yay for us! Things went pretty darned smoothly which of course means it's going to be hell getting it back together.

The throwout bearing didn't feel all that bad. this worries me a bit. How much play should there be in the fork for the clutch?

Where was the coolant leak?

Where was the leak?

The fork should rest on the ball thinggy with the spring to hold it in place. It shouldn't rattle but it should have good movement, is it bend or loose?

Hose coming off of the rear rotor, the one that always breaks, is too small and is way to hard to replace if you don't have the intake off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Pretty much what I had guessed. It was in reallll poor shape.

Loose as all heck, I'll go out and look at it again here in a bit. And drool over his paint job.

Now my wife wants me to paint my car that color...

I want to make real sure we fix the problem before we put it all back together as it's not exactly something you want to do just for the heck of it. Alltho taking the upper intake off of a Turbo II is a lot easier then on an NA

Make sure that the ball and spring are in good shape.

turborotor 06-23-2002 09:27 AM

Since youare there, might as well upgrade the clutch and cover https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Make sure the ball is still attached the trans.

SInce you are still there. check for any engine or trans oil leaks.

Really?!? It was WAY easier to do on my NA than on my TII. The NA only has like 4 vac lines goint to it, whereas the TII has like 20. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I agree with that. I always found the NA easier to take apart quickly.

Rotaryman88 06-23-2002 12:01 PM

It took me about an hour to take off my NA upper manifold, TB, and a/c bracket back when did my swap...but it was my first time taking an NA apart. I took my SE-X UIM and TB off yesterday in about 30min or so...no trouble at all...I guess it depends on what you work on more...I have a bunch of knowledge on NAs and how they work, but I have more Turbo experience...don't know how that worked out, lol....
