do all open rear diffs have the opening exposing the spider gears? Or do the stock lsd units have open spider gears too but with a bar in the middle for lsd? I'm just trying to figure out if the diff is lsd. The guy told me it was and im' thinking that i just got screwed into buying something i don't need. thanks.

All manual cars had the 4.1:1. Automatic coupes got the 3.9:1 while they used the 4.1:1 in the auto verts to help offset the extra weight of the vert.

the verts all had 3.9, cause they needed to make them slower....

actually they were trying to get better gas mileage.

I'm going w/ all verts had 3.9 as that is what I've read as well. Being that I've never taken apart a vert rear I can't confirm this, but that's just my two cents...

I'll have an extra 4.33 laying around in about 3 months,lol...

In the MT convertibles, the '88 'vert came with a 3.9 and '89 up 'verts were 4.1. All were open diffs.

it was a 3.9 open diff. I sent it back because the guy said it was lsd so i'm getting a new one or my money back.
