Just wondering if I really need and aftermarket Fuel Pressure Regulator for a Walbro pump, or should the stock FPR in the stock secondary rail be able to handle it?

Also, I know that the stock FPR has a vacuum line coming off of it, but I don't have anywhere to attach it to because I removed all of the solenoid valves when i took out all the emissions and rats nest. So i take it that the Stock FPR would not work correctly then?

Opinions? Do I need one now that my vacuum/boost solenoids are gone? Thanks

Even if the stock pressure regulator is inadequate with your pump, hooking up the regulator would serve to get you back closer to where the fuel pressure should be at idle. I believe that all the PRC solenoid does is cut off the vacuum during hot starts to give extra fuel pressure. Most cars don't have a solenoid like this. It is just hooked up straight to manifold vacuum. You can hook it up straight to an unused intake vacuum port for now while you are trying to get your car running right and go back and add the PRC solenoid later. You might consider later adding all of the solenoids back and hook up just the wires to them to give the computer something to do so it won't generate the codes.

The standard test for checking for proper operation of a fuel pressure regulator is to remove the vacuum line from it, hold your finger over the vacuum line so you won't have a vacuum leak and see if the idle drops. Thus, if your having idle problems enabling the pressure regulator would be a good thing to try. It should affect the idle to some extent.
