Hmmm...maybe I do have one then. I'm putting it up on ebay for $2500 as a collector's item. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Christi, how much has the shop quoted you on the pipe?

christi 10-22-2002 05:38 PM

They haven't given me a quote, because the one I went to yesterday while fixing my exhaust leak said they can't do it because it's illegal...

Unless you want some backwards ass fucktard doing it, you will have to take the converters off yourself and drive it down there. Then tell them you want the manifold connected to the y-pipe with a 2.5" pipe. Even then they may not do it for you, or even be able to because of the flange shape.

Just buy a friggin Bonez pipe or something. Making your own exhaust really only works well on turbo cars.

i went with a 3" racing beat down pipe and 3" glasspack to a apexi exhaust

christi 10-22-2002 06:36 PM

Mike - that's what I thought. N/a's have 2.5" piping while TIIs have 3" piping.

Rob - I know all this, and I understand what you're saying.

I've already been told that if I go straight exhaust or even hollow out the cats, I'm going to have to do a block off on the air pump (I believe that's it - besides what you said about the straight pipe).

I hear so many stories, I'm not sure WHAT to believe. I do know, that if I go straight pipe all the way back, I'm able to block the ACV, as well as wire open the 6 ports or take the sleeves out. AFAIK, it won't hurt anything.

Bah. The forum is lagging.

This is true, but doing it your own way is a hell of alot cheaper, and works just the same.

I could buy what a few suggestion, but too expensive right now.. ...

Just keep your main converter that is new, it also has the air tube, a shop shouldnt give you a hard time about making a pipe if you are at least keeping ONE converter on there, BUT- Keep in mind, it is a FEDERAL law to remove emissions, you dont have a relationship with a shop so it will be hard for you, ask your local pals, im sure SOMEONE knows SOMEBODY. Then when you have more then $4.87 to your name take off the last converter and do the engine mods. For the measly power you are going to gain, why not just keep the one converter on there and dont molest the thing under the hood?

I still say the car will be too loud, but what do I know, lol.

Dont ask us again in a week, thank you!

It may work the same for about a year or so if they use cheap ass pipe. Plus it'll sound like peppered ass if you run no converters, no presilencer, and the stock catback.

If you're that cash strapped, buy new gaskets from Mazda and just gut the precats. Leave the main one alone or it will leak. That is the cheapest way, damn close to as good as replacing them with a pipe, and won't sound like a barrel full of flies.
